After a great reading start to the year, things have slowed down on the reading front in the Kelly Household. (At least for me. The Gentleman has been happily reading away this entire time.) I could blame this on the fact that I’m researching a new book, which means that I’m reading for specific facts and a sense of timeline rather than necessarily finishing a book. However, I also have been very distracted by some big knitting projects this week.
While I can knit while reading1, my primary project this month was complicated enough that I couldn’t split my attention. However, between that project nearly being done and a long flight to the US, I did manage to get some reading done.
February at a Glance
The Last Hope by Susan Elia MacNeal
One of the best parts about being an author is being asked to give books an early read. That was the case with The Last Hope, which is the 11th book in the Maggie Hope mystery series and also it’s finale. Here’s a look at what I had to say about the book:
"An explosive finale to a thrilling series! Once again, Maggie Hope shines as she finds herself plunged into a dangerous game of intrigue in World War 2 Spain. With spies, double agents, and shady figures around every corner, readers won’t be able to resist losing themselves in each thrilling twist and turn!"
The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman
I am an unabashed fan of Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club mysteries, and I thoroughly enjoyed this outing of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron. Yet again, I found myself taken aback in the best way about how astutely Osman writes about love, loss, and grief, blending those elements with the humour that is so beautifully baked into these characters.
What I’m currently reading
The Mystery in Moonshine by Lindsay Emory
A new Lindsay Emory book is always an event for me, and The Mystery in Moonshine is no different! The recent release of this book is perfectly timed for a long flight where I will be knitting and reading simultaneously. I love the Delacourt family, and the world of Moonshine Cove that Lindsay’s created. I think it says good things that I’m tearing through this book, wanting to know what is going to happen next!
Lisbon: War in the Shadows of the City of Light, 1939-1945 by Neill Lochery
This one’s still hanging around on my bedside table because it is one of those research books I’m slowly mining for details rather than necessarily reading to finish.
What’s next on my TBR
Scandalous Women by Gill Paul
I was lucky enough to be asked to give Scandalous Women an early read, and I cannot wait to get back to London to pick this one up!
What have you recently read and enjoyed? Leave a comment and let me know!
I find that, for me, reading on an iPad is best. However, I can also read if I can prop a book up with a book weight keeping the pages open.
Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray! Left me reading more and watching a documentary on FDR.
Fabulous! thank you!!
