There is nothing like the feeling of opening an email from your editor that includes the words, “I’m very happy to send along our proposed cover for your next book!” and is followed by an attachment of the book cover. It is both thrilling and nerve wracking in equal measure because, as an author, you want so badly to have a great cover and you have so little say in the process.
You can imagine my pure delight then when I opened my editor Maddie’s email and found this staring back at me:
I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief because I absolutely love the cover for Betrayal at Blackthorn Park, the second book in my World War 2-set Evelyne Redfern mystery series!
In Betrayal at Blackthorn Park, my amateur sleuth Evelyne Redfern has just returned from a rigorous six weeks of training with the Special Operations Executive and is ready to step into her new role as a field agent for a secretive branch of Britain’s wartime government called the Special Investigations Unit. However, her excitement is punctured when she finds out her first assignment won’t be investigating a murder or rooting out corruption at the highest levels of the military. Instead, she’ll be running a routine security check on a secret weapons research and development facility at a requisitioned country manor called Blackthorn Park.
However, when the engineer in charge of the facility, Sir Nigel, winds up dead from an apparent suicide, Evelyne jumps into action. Suspecting foul play, she and her partner David Poole find themselves pulled into a conspiracy that could jeopardize Winston Churchill’s plans to win Britain the war.
I’m thrilled that Evelyne and David will be back in bookstores on October 1, 2023, and I can’t wait to share more about Betrayal at Blackthorn Park in the coming months! In the meantime, you can preorder the book at all major book retailers including:
Or add Betrayal at Blackthorn Park to your Goodreads To Read list.
And if you want to catch up on the series, you can pick up the first book in the Evelyne Redfern series, A Traitor in Whitehall, in hardcover, ebook, or audiobook today!
A Traitor in Whitehall will also come out in paperback on September 10, 2024! It’s available for preorder at all major bookstores now.
What a great cover! Are mysteries harder to write than your other historical fiction titles? Or the same?
I cannot wait for this to come out! I love Evelyne and David! So excited for October!
