I am writing to you from a pretty monstrous deadline as I push to get the first draft of my 2026 historical novel edited before I hand it over to my editor. That means most of what my brain wants right now is to spend 12 hours a day reading any books that were not written by me. It also means I don’t have a huge amount of brain power left for writing Substack articles.
Go figure.
Leaning into that, I figured I would keep this month’s Your Latest London Dispatch short, sweet, and full of books.

A Dark and Deadly Journey (Evelyne Redfern #3)
I am so ridiculously happy to say that I have just handed in proofread pages of the third Evelyne Redfern mystery, A Dark and Deadly Journey! I finished them up this afternoon, and I think you’re going to love this installment of the series, which sees Evelyne and David sent off to Lisbon in search of a missing informant with vital information that could shift the balance of World War 2.
A Dark and Deadly Journey comes out on September 23rd, but you can preorder it now!
Books I Want to Read
Okay, as I said up at the top, all I want to do right now is sit down and read my way through the many books on my bedside table and on my iPad. I figured I’d show you just a few as well as some upcoming releases I can’t wait to read!
What are you looking forward to reading this spring?
The King's Messenger was WONDERFUL!
Good afternoon Ms. Kelly,
I'm curious about your book selection process. With so many amazing books and authors available, I sometimes feel overwhelmed trying to decide what to read or purchase next. Do you have a system or particular strategy you use to narrow down your choices?
Thank you!
Lana
