As a dressmaker for many years and 1940s fashion enthusiast, I am really enjoying your book! Your newsletters with background information are particularly interesting but I was wondering if you have ever come across photos of actual dressmaker shops during the time period. The factory photos are fascinating but I would really like to see a photo of a small dress shop workroom - I have searched but to no avail.
I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying it! I really struggled to find information or images about dressmaker shops at this time as part of my research. (Or even accounts from dressmakers themselves.) I wish I’d been able to because it feels like such a loss that their accounts aren’t more readily available!
I have found a lot of men’s tailoring shop photos but women are only shown in a factory setting which is quite sad. Anyway, your descriptions are very vivid so I do have a picture in my head…:)

Seeing these dresses did make it easier to understand what your book says about the pleats that were allowed.
